Planet Fitness franchises across the country are adding Total Body Enhancement equipment to their gyms. This article will describe what this is, what you can do with it, and the pros and cons.
What is Total Body Enlargement?
Total body enhancement refers to a red-light therapy booth combined with a vibrating floor plate manufactured by Beauty Angel for Planet Fitness gyms across the country.
The equipment is shaped like a tanning booth without UV tubes. Red Light Therapy tubes emit a visible, safe red light instead of tanning tubes.
The fluorescent tubes in this booth emit a minimum amount of UV light. This is no more than the standard fluorescent tube found in overhead lights.
These red light tubes are on each side of the booth and will provide a blasting red light to your whole body.
This machine emits light with a peak at 618nm. It also has peaks at 696nm and 702nm.
This device also emits a small amount of green and blue light.
The combination of these three colors gives the light to the human eye a white/pink tint.
The booth also contains a Vibra Shape footplate that vibrates. The Vibra Shape comes with four intensity settings. This page will not go into detail about the science behind it.
Studies have shown that shaking your whole body can produce similar metabolic benefits to walking on a treadmill. This excludes the cardiovascular benefits.
How to use Total Body Enhancement
Total body enhancement can be used whenever you want. The manufacturers recommend using the booth for 12 minutes, 2-3 times a week over 90 days. Leave 24 hours in between sessions.
The total body enhancement booth is best used after a workout. Red light therapy stimulates the body’s natural repair process and reduces inflammation. This is perfect for those doing cardio or weight-training training.
The vibrating platform in lower sessions works like a gentle massage by gently vibrating your muscles. Ideal for relaxing after a workout.
If you’ve already done a challenging workout, avoid the higher intensity levels.
It is not necessary to use it after a workout. It could be used as a stand-alone treatment. Here we won’t cover all the benefits of red light therapy.
We are often asked, “How do I use the machine?” We have heard from people that the staff of planet fitness is still determining what and how people should do this. Instructions are also not readily available.
If you’re listening, Planet Fitness, please add instructions to your booth or at least teach your staff how it works!
Below we have attempted to explain how to operate the machine. Each planet fitness gym with a Total Body Enhancement booth may have slightly varying models. However, hopefully, the picture below will help you to figure it out.
How often should Total Body Enhancement be used?
Planet Fitness’ red-light therapy is non-invasive and does not use chemicals or drugs. It also has no harmful side effects. The company recommends 3-5 sessions a week in the first 1-4weeks.
To get the best results, combine Total Body Enhancement with a balanced diet and exercise. Combine Total Body Enhancement with a healthy diet and regular exercise for best results.
Red light therapy: Unlocking its benefits
The benefits of red light therapy are increasing in popularity.
Our bodies convert red light into cellular power, stimulating many metabolic processes.
Red light stimulates mitochondria in cells, which release more ATP. This energy is what allows the cell to operate at its best. This healing energy increases collagen and elastin production, two proteins vital to the health of your skin.
Red light therapy is not just for the skin. It has many other benefits as well. It gives you more energy to work out and improves your performance.
Red light therapy boosts cellular energy and helps:
- Promote weight loss.
- Skin damage caused by age and sun exposure can be repaired.
- Even out your skin tone.
- Reduce fine wrinkles and lines.
- Acne, blemished, and scarred skin can be treated.
- Wound healing can be accelerated.
- Reduce inflammation.
Red Light Therapy: Total Body Enhancement Benefits
Red light therapy is available in many forms, but Planet Fitness Beauty Angels are the most effective. Why? Why?
- The sun’s harmful UV rays are not present.
- It energizes and stimulates muscles before working out.
- After a workout, it refreshes you and relaxes.
- This low-impact exercise is great for legs, arms, and abs.
- The session is quick, lasting only 12 minutes. You can also choose the Vibra Shape 10-minute program, which includes both a warm-up and a cool-down.
The Beauty Angel is the ideal companion for your next workout. It offers cellulite reduction, wrinkle reduction, and smoother, tighter, and toned skin.
Total Body Enhancement At Planet Fitness – Does It Actually Work? My Review & Results

Imagine this: a machine that touts fat loss. Cellulite reduction. Wrinkle removal. And all you have to do is stand still. Sound too good to be true?
The Total Body Enhancement machine at Planet Fitness makes these claims – and more. And my gym-loving, science nerd self (who also touts a bit of cellulite and wrinkles) wanted to see if there was any validity to these claims.
So I did the research and got into the machine for a few months straight. Here’s my story and what I discovered about the Total Body Enhancement machine.
Does The Total Body Enhancement At Planet Fitness Actually Work? Let’s Dive In.
SO IT ALL BEGAN WITH SOCIAL MEDIA. I was scrolling through Instagram stories because that’s been my favorite distraction lately, even though I’m
LONG LIVE THE WRITTEN WORD!
As I scrolled through the daily IG “story” of an elite endurance athlete I admire, my (short) attention was grabbed by a boomerang video of her in a red light therapy bed.
Immediately my mind thought of the “Total Body Enhancement” contraptions at my local Planet Fitness.
But Heather, I Thought You Hated Planet Fitness?
Let me back up again. Planet Fitness, as it turns out, is less horrible of a place than I once imagined. Deep down, I still fully support locally owned, small gyms that do not have a “no judgement” double standard, first and foremost.
Suppose you have known me for a while. In that case, you’ve undoubtedly seen one of my rants over their “lunk” marketing campaigns and the fact that they have a reputation for singling out and shunning fit people.
kicking you out if they deem your outfit too “intimidating” and getting rid of squat racks and heavy free weights because only bone-head “links” use those.
I’ve also snarkily commented that for years, their headquarters was located right next to a Chuck E. Cheese (we passed it on the way to Portland, Maine, multiple times per year).
But I’ll be the first to stand up and say, I’m sorry, Planet Fitness. I was wrong.
About a year ago, I joined the Myrtle Beach PF circuit as a black card member to be able to work out with some friends. And guess what? It’s alright.
In fact, my local gym (Myrtle Beach) is always super clean, the staff is amiable, and if we’re location…including the super fit ladies rocking only tights and a sports bra. The equipment is always functional, and the first Monday of every month?
THEY GIVE YOU FREE PIZZA.
Talk all the smack you want about pizza in a gym, but THIS ultra runner thinks it’s freaking fantastic. There is ZERO shame in my pizza game.
All of that, and I can bring my husband (or anyone else for that matter, but he is my favorite) as a “guest” as many times as I want for $20 a month. I’ll take it.
But I digress, back to the Total Body Enhancement machine. So this Instagram Elite athlete (it was Amelia Boone) reminded me that with my Planet Fitness black card membership.
I get free hydro massages (yay), free tanning (say no to skin cancer), and free use of the Total Body Enhancement machine, which I’ve never bothered setting foot in. I knew it contained red light therapy bulbs, but that was the extent of my knowledge.
But now I was intrigued. If super endurance athlete Amelia uses red light therapy, I should too (gah, I’m such a sheep). So I did a little online research.
About The Total Body Enhancement Machine:
The Total Body Enhancement machine, also known as the “Beauty Angel RVT 30”, is essentially a booth that uses red light therapy bulbs (nondamaging, non-UV rays) combined with a vibration plate to magically enhance you somehow.
What is that supposed to do for you? Well, nonscientific, nonreputable sources (aka, I googled) came back with the following potential benefits:
Potential Benefits Of The Total Body Enhancement Machine:
- Stimulates the release of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), thus giving you more energy before a workout.
- Stimulates collagen and elastin production, therefore increasing skin elasticity and reducing wrinkles and stretchmarks.
- Reduces cellulite.
- (brace yourself for this one) Burn tiny holes into your fat cells (? ), releasing the fat into your body so you can burn it off easier (??)
- Stimulates blood flow to the muscles, aiding as an adequate warm-up before a workout.
- Helps reduce inflammation in muscles and joints
